How far is Mui Ne from the Moc Bai border crossing?
About 265 km door to gate from the Ham Tien strip, or a shade under 250 km from central Phan Thiet. Budget five hours each way with one food stop. The drive runs up the Phan Thiet to Dau Giay expressway and then northwest on QL22 through Tay Ninh province.
What time should I leave Phan Thiet for a same-day run?
Our cars start pickups around 05:30. That puts you at the Vietnamese exit hall near 10:00, before the big Ho Chi Minh City buses arrive and while the counters are still quiet. Leaving after 07:00 usually means you are still on the road when the midday queue builds.
What are the Moc Bai border gate hours?
Published hours for the Moc Bai and Bavet crossing run from early morning to late evening, and the gate area itself closes around 18:00. Immigration desks slow down well before closing, so treat mid-morning to early afternoon as the realistic window. Nobody should plan a Moc Bai crossing at dusk.
Is the walk between the two checkpoints hard?
It is flat and about 300 metres, past duty-free shops and food stalls, with no shade for most of it. In April and May that is a hot ten minutes. An electric shuttle cart runs the stretch for roughly 25,000 VND if you would rather ride, and there are drinks on both sides.
Can I buy duty-free goods at Moc Bai?
Yes, there is a duty-free strip in the border economic zone. The allowance is 500,000 VND per person per day, and alcohol or tobacco is capped at 100,000 VND with buyers over 18. Anything above the limit attracts normal tax, so it is a coffee-and-cigarette stop, not a shopping trip.
Is the Mui Ne run different from a Ho Chi Minh City run?
Same gate, very different day. From central Ho Chi Minh City it is roughly 70 km to Moc Bai, so city agencies can loop out and back in half a day. From Mui Ne you are looking at 265 km and five hours each way, which is why our runs are built around a single early start and a fixed crossing window.
